EAGAN– Folks at an Eagan business are seeing stars—an ENERGY STAR rating, that is, awarded only to businesses with the most energy efficient buildings nationwide. Congratulations to Ergotron, a manufacturer of ergonomic computer mounting and mobility products, for implementing a series of energy upgrades resulting in this prestigious award.
Ergotron is one of several companies Energy Smart has helped to earn ENERGY STAR recognition since Energy Smart became an authorized ENERGY STAR Partner.
Ergotron has been engaged in energy conservation efforts since 2008 when they completed a large lighting upgrade. A white roof was installed in early 2012. By early October 2012, Ergotron was looking ahead for more ways to improve efficiency, and contacted Energy Smart to request an on-site consultation.
“Through our ISO 14001:2004 program we are always exploring ways to ensure that our activities, products and services have a minimal impact on or risk to the environment, including energy efficiency,” says Carrie Grossman, Senior Supply Chain and Facility Manager at Ergotron. “As a member of Minnesota Waste Wise, I knew the Energy Smart staff was my ‘go-to’ source for help with identifying new projects.”
During the consultation, Energy Smart helped Ergotron complete their ENERGY STAR paperwork, and also to apply for a $750 rebate from Xcel Energy for 47 room occupancy sensors Ergotron had installed. The sensors are expected to save more than $700 in annual energy costs.
Ergotron was notified of their ENERGY STAR rating in November 2012. “Energy Smart’s help in guiding us through the process was invaluable,” says Grossman. Ergotron will continue to advance its energy goals with another large lighting upgrade in the works for 2013.

One business, J & E Antiques on Arcade Avenue, upgraded their lights early in 2012. Seeing the cost savings on their electric bill, they contacted Energy Smart for assistance with crunching the numbers on a furnace upgrade.
“Energy Smart did most of the work to make this upgrade happen,” says Lonnie Piche, Owner. “They figured out the utility rebate and were outstanding to work with.” J & E Antiques received a utility rebate of $250 for the furnace upgrade and expects to save more than $600 in annual energy costs.
