Food Service Specialties Installs New Efficient Air Compressor

food-service-ES-successMany manufacturers rely on compressed air systems in their production operations.

Staff at Food Service Specialties, specialist in the preparation and packaging of food, suspected their compressed air system was in need of replacement. The Red Wing company asked for an assessment through Ingersoll Rand, a global leader in compressed air systems and services. A system upgrade was recommended, but Food Service Specialties was in no rush to invest.

When the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce announced its grant program for energy efficiency in 2014, Chamber member Ingersoll Rand inquired about the details. They’d hoped that the information would help expedite the compressed air upgrade at Food Service Specialties. They soon learned the project qualified for a $4,000 MCC grant, and a utility rebate of $16,279, offsetting costs of the $82,000 project.

“Hearing that I could get a Chamber grant for the project made me decide to complete the job sooner than I might have otherwise,” said Rod Oberg, Maintenance Reliability Manager.

With this financing in place, the work proceeded quickly, and a new 100 hp VSD compressed air system was installed. The upgrade is expected to save the company $15,690 in annual energy savings resulting in an energy use reduction of 159,885 kWh.

Energy Smart facilitated another four similar compressed air upgrades in 2014 with an estimated annual energy savings of 476,586 kWh.
