Success Story — LED lighting upgrade
Retailer receives thousands in LED lighting rebates
WOODBURY — Jim Borofka, owner of the P.M. Bedroom Gallery furniture store in Woodbury, worked with Energy Smart to pursue commercial LED lighting rebates through Xcel Energy for a recent lighting upgrade.
Xcel Energy introduced new commercial prescriptive rebates for LED lights in 2010, as a way to make it more affordable and cost-effective for its customers to upgrade to efficient lighting.
Energy Smart reported earlier this year that Borofka completed a lighting upgrade at the Woodbury P.M. Bedroom Gallery store. The upgrade of 129 50-watt halogen bulbs with 129 15-watt LED bulb was done. Since the bulbs were qualified through the federal Energy Star program, an Xcel Energy prescriptive rebate of nearly $3,200 was received and an estimated $1,500 in annual energy savings is expected.
Borofka was so happy with the quality of light and the savings achieved that he has upgraded lights at the Blaine P.M. Bedroom Gallery store. An upgrade of 220 75-watt halogen bulbs with 220 15-watt LED bulbs was done at this store.
Borofka plans to upgrade lights at a 3rd location later this year. “Putting in LEDs was the right thing to do and offer even better quality light than what we had before,” he said.
