Success Story — Micro Control Company
Numbers Add Up for Fridley Manufacturer
FRIDLEY – It takes a lot of light to illuminate an 80,000 square foot building. For Micro Control Company, a manufacturer of test equipment for the electronics industry, it takes light from 418 fixtures. On the bright side, that’s 418 opportunities to reduce energy use and start saving money.
As a member of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, Micro Control Company received an outreach call from Energy Smart in late 2010. At the time, Micro Control wasn’t interested in assistance, but after a client inquired about their energy efficiency practices, the company knew to call for Energy Smart for assistance. Energy Smart staff conducted an on-site consultation in May 2011, and facilitated a lighting audit the next month. To better manage upgrading so many lights, Micro Control installed new fixtures gradually, completing the upgrade over the course of a year.
“Energy Smart helped us identify and quantify opportunities for saving energy,” says John Giffin, Safety and Training Coordinator. “They assisted us through the whole process, and encouraged me to keep the upgrade on my radar,” he said.
The company received a rebate of more than $37,000 from its electric utility, Xcel Energy, and is expected to save more than $16,267 in annual energy costs.
